Microwave Assisted One Pot Synthetic Method for Fungicidal and Nematicidal Schiff Bases

A new eco-friendly, solvent free process for the synthesis of Schiff bases has been reported. The non solvent (bulk) reaction, experimental simplicity, time reduction and enhance yields are the assets to the approach. The methhoology described has brought down the reaction time from 12–24 h to 1 minute. The Schiif bases exhibited fungicidal and nematicidal activities. Propyl derivative was most effective against Rhizoctonia bataticola (ED5028.87) and Sclerotium rolfsii (ED50 12.99) followed by hexyl derivative as compared to known fungicide hexaconazole (ED50 6.35 for Rhizoctonia bataticola and that for Sclerotium rolfsii being 1.27). The nematicidal effect was not much pronounced though LC50 values against Rotylenchulus reniformis decreased with increase in chain length hf Schiff bases.
