Information input in an optical pattern recognition system using a relay tube based on the pockels effect

Abstract This communication describes an experimental arrangement for pattern recognition by means of holography, which uses an electron beam-addressed crystal of deuterated KDP (KD 2 PO 4 ) as an input device. This enables an incoherently illuminated image to be investigated almost in real time. Moreover, by suitably operating the KD 2 PO 4 crystal the disturbing zero order term of the Fourier spectrum of the object can be completely suppressed, thus improving the performance of the filter hologram.
