Bar code localization using texture analysis

Automatically locating a bar code on an object (e.g., a consumer product, postal mial, etc.) is an important step in an optical bar code recognition system. The authors present an approach for automatic bar code localization, which is based on the multichannel Gabor filtering technique. Both supervised and unsupervised methods are discussed. These methods are rotation-invariant and are able to locate bar codes on planar and curved surfaces.<<ETX>>
