A New Model for the Control Mechanism of the Human Eye

ABSTRACT A hybrid, continuous-cum-sampled data model, is presented to describe the action of the control system for directing the human gaze at a moving target. The motion of the target is confined to a horizontal direction in a plane perpendicular to the line of gaze. The model's superiority is claimed in the sense that it accounts for the muscle force and dynamics, and also the various non-linearities present in the eye. Efforts have been made to obtain an output which resembles qualitatively the limited experimental evidence available and account for the various phenomena observed in the human eye.
