The Developing Process and Risk Analysis of Ice Jams Based on Field Test

Ice jams can cause various problems to the structures performance and local safety, which should be considered during the design process. Ice jams have been found mainly on wide structures and multi-leg narrow structures with different characteristics. Based on filed observations, this paper described main factors that influence ice jamming. Then induced risks of a multi-leg structure in the Bohai Sea are analyzed, mainly including the structure stability and ice jams on structural components. Feasible methods of solving the problem are brought forward. The research on ice jamming is also useful for the optimization of the geometry of offshore structures.
