SYNOPSIS This paper presents an investigation on an open cycle absorption solar cooling system with solution storage for continuous operation. A simple heat and mass transfer analysis for predicting the water mass evaporation rate under steady state and transient conditions have been presented. Basic mass, material, and heat balance equations along with fluid properties state equation have been used and parametric results for the mass of the anhydrous salt and/or water mass content in the solution required for system operation have been predicted as a function of climatic parameters and initial solution condition. It is found that an open cycle absorption cooling system with solution storage option is feasible for continuous air-conditioning.
