Power optimization control of doubly fed induction generator based on active power reserve

The maximum power point tracking strategy usually prevents doubly fed wind power generator(DFIG) from controlling its output power and providing spinning reserves. According to the operating characteristics of DFIG, this paper proposes a novel power control strategy based on coordinating over-speed control and pitch control. The coordination strategy can effectively control the output power of DFIG at all wind speed regions by pitch control. And it stores abandoned wind energy by taking the full advantage of the turbine's rotational inertia under medium and low wind speed conditions in order to improve the power generation efficiency of DFIG and optimize the operation conditions of the pitch actuator. Simulation results show that the novel power control strategy can effectively limit output active power of turbine to the reference value, reduce power fluctuations under random wind variations, and realize the load shedding operation of DFIG so as to provide power reserve.
