Surveyance of Ambient Conditions in Mines Using Intelligent Sensor Nodes

Mining industry has attracted a lot of research in terms of safety of miners who work in an unmonitored environment. In addition, combination of low humidity, low pressure and seasonal drying is tripling the risk of mine workers. There is a need to break this combination through an effective and intelligent communication network which is capable of tracing the miners and monitors the surrounding atmosphere and can predict any forthcoming problems. This paper presents the results obtained from intelligent sensor nodes designed for tracking and monitoring the mining environment. The primary objective of this paper is to design nodes which are capable of creating a wireless network through the embedded sensors. Each node works in a different manner, to monitor the ambient condition of the surrounding such as hazardous gas, temperature, humidity and miners orientation using various sensors and are held by the miners and other traces the power level of the monitoring node and tracks the miners when they enters their vicinity. The proposed system works effectively and can be produced at a lessor cost as compared to the existing similar systems.
