Analysis for natural vibration characteristics of spiral bevel gears

Spiral bevel gear is usually used for high-speed,heavy load situations,which may resonance strongly within rated revolution,bring sharply increasing of vibration stress and prematurely cause fatigue failure.A finite element model covering complete structure of the gear is established using a modeling program of spiral bevel gear independently developed with APDL language.Then the natural vibration characteristics of five spiral bevel gear are calculated for different web thickness and several basic lower order modes are summarized.The result shows that the natural frequency of the gear will be larger with its web thickness increases,however,the deformation and the vibration stress are also affected by modes.
