Analysis and Control Implementation for Instantaneous Mode Switching Bi-Directional Dc-Dc Converter for Plug-In Electric Vehicle

This paper analyses a topology of bidirectional dc-dc converter and controller design for power flow control between the battery bank and the DC motor in Plug-in Electric Vehicle. As the traditional bidirectional dc-dc converter requires few switching cycles to switch the power flow direction from one to another, the instantaneous switching from motoring mode to regenerative breaking or vice versa is not possible. Thus a new topology is analyses to switch from one mode to another instantaneously. In addition, a suitable controller design is also proposed in this paper. Finally the simulation results of the traditional bidirectional dc-dc converter and the proposed converter is compared.
