Venting of vessels containing reacting fluids: a parametric study with SAFIRE and DEERS

Abstract The importance of in-vessel flow regimes during the depressurization of vessels containing viscous and non-viscous fluids, was examined by the codes SAFIRE and DEERS. Similarly, the influence of chemical reactions on the transient was investigated for simple reacting mixtures. The differences between venting into the atmosphere and venting into a catch tank were also examined. Whenever possible, experimental comparisons were made, with the main emphasis directed towards the hydrodynamic aspects of the phenomena involved.
