CO2 Storage Uncertainty and Risk Assessment for the Post-closure Period at the Ketzin Pilot Site in Germany☆

Abstract Comprehensive knowledge gained through the application of a unique and multidisciplinary monitoring program at the Ketzin pilot site has been largely integrated into the development of a site-specific static geological model. Although dynamic modelling results have demonstrated good conformity with the field observations thus far, the long-term fate of CO2 remains uncertain. This is due to the lack of sufficient data regarding the geological characteristics of the far-field region in the reservoir. In this paper, the authors describe a methodology to quantify these uncertainties in order to perform a site-specific risk assessment for the post- closure period.
