The incredible shrinking space station

At a time when other space station contractors are bracing for cuts, the president of one company in Los Angeles is expecting business to pick up. Wonderworks Inc. makes the precise scale models of the space station that NASA uses in its film animations. Business has been good. Space station Freedom has been "downsized", "rephased" or "de-scoped" five times in the last nine years, with numerous less extensive design changes in between. Partially completed models, rendered obsolete by design changes, still hang in the Wonderworks shop. Now the Clinton administration has ordered NASA to "restructure" the station again, to make it cheaper to build and to maintain.
