Discriminant analysis has been applied to the classification of the frequency spectra of the closing sounds emitted by Bjork-Shiley convexo-concave heart valves with and without broken minor struts when operating in vitro. The sounds were generated with valves operating under a variety of conditions in a model left ventricle. It was found that the discriminant functions generated classified correctly all valves tested.
