Book Review: The State-Variable Approach to Continuous Estimation

The book is divided into three parts. Part I deals with modelling and simulation and includes the basic elements for network modelling, sensitivity of models, building blocks for analog simulation, and a procedure for obtaining sensitivity functions from the simulation diagrams. Part I ends with a chapter on the modelling of a spacecraft which the authors use as a theme example to motivate and illustrate the material throughout the book. The main body of the book is contained in Part II which includes systems response via transfer functions and state Variables, the stability oflinear autonomous systems, the response of non-linear systems, and the analysis of discrete-time systems. Part III is concerned with control and optimization and includes chapters on feedback and control, and theoretical and computational methods of Parameter optimization.
