Influence of release conditions on BLEVE fireballs

This paper studies how the release conditions influence the fireballs generated by BLEVEs. Results show that the temperature of the liquid loading has a significant influence on the fireball. Fireballs generated from a cool lading generate the worst fire hazards at close range because they create a large ground fire, take longer to liftoff, and last longer. The data also shows that the tank failure mode favors the propagation of the cloud in a direction perpendicular to the tank axis.
