Circuit and method for verifying electronic sensors

A circuit for an electronic sensor of motor vehicle safety devices having an acceleration detector (PE) the output signal of which can be transmitted to an evaluation circuit connected after a final stage (38) for releasing the safety device. A signal generator (34-32-30) is provided for generating a test signal that can be applied to the acceleration detector (PE), the output signal of which can be supplied to a comparator (22-24-26). A checking process for dynamically checking the acceleration detector (PE) comprises generating a test signal, applying it to the acceleration detector (PE) and analysing the behaviour in time of the output signal of the acceleration detector. Another process for dynamically checking the acceleration detector is based on the analysis of the behaviour in time of the output signal of the acceleration detector during its transient response after the supply voltage (US) is switched on.
