Requirements and Recommendations for Learning Strategies in the U.S. Army Basic Skills Education Program.

Abstract : This report was prepared under the Scientific Services Program - short term Analysis Services between the Department of the Army and Battelle Columbus Laboratories. TRADOC is seeking to provide soldiers with learning strategy skills, in addition to other Basic Skills Education approaches, to help them become more efficient and independent learners. The growing rate of academic attrition is taken as evidence of the need for such skills. This report outlines three learning strategy models, along with curriculum revision effort, as holding promise for improving soldier's learning capacity: embedded learning strategies, study skills adjunct courses, and strategy/text alignment training for teachers.
