Sachbilanz für den Verkehr mit Seeschiffen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland

Energy optimised medium speed diesel engines for ocean vessels are particularly characterised by a higher NO x emission of 20 g/kWh in the exhaust gas. The regulation of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for the year 2000 demands for new (NO x optimised) diesel engines for ships an emission standard of 12 g/kWh. Low speed diesel engines are eminently energy efficient and emit considerably more NO x as a result. The Swedish regulation for the reduction of water and port charges demands an emission standard of less then 2 g/kWh in the exhaust gas (according to ISO 8178 E2). To meet these requirements the implementation of the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) process is absolutely necessary. The present life cycle inventory analysis deals with the emissions from ship transportation and secondary measures for their reduction.
