Multiseed interactive segmentation for 3D visualization using different perspective angles for histological structures

This paper presents an interactive algorithm able to segment several single-connected objects and to yield various alternative results, so enabling the user to select the best one in accordance with his knowledge and requirements. Moreover, we also describe a way to reconstruct and visualize the 3D volume of a segmented structure, using different perspective angles. Once the object has been reconstructed by superimposing the contours (extracted by the segmentation phase), different views of the object can be obtained rotating the original plane and creating a perspective effect that allows one to better interpret the evolution in the space of the object of interest. Results are reported applying the system to microscopical images of histological structures.© (1993) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
