Total one-lung atelectasis after endotracheal intubation and positive pressure ventilation: a critical problem solved with the use of a double-lumen tube

We report a case of a 62-year-old woman who developed total one-lung atelectasis after endotracheal intubation and positive pressure ventilation due to compression of the mainstem bronchus. The immediate problem was managed by intubation with a double-lumen endotracheal tube.
