Load-carrying capacity generation in squeeze film action

The mechanism of squeeze action is explored using results of numerical analyses and physical explanations. The relationship between the mean film force and the load the squeeze film could support is established. It is concluded that the high viscous resistance around the contact boundary is the source of squeeze air film build-up. Repeated compression and expansion of air contribute to the formation of unsymmetric pressure field and load-carrying capacity.
