A nonstationary signal analysis approach——the local characteristic-scale decomposition method

A new nonstationary signal analysis method, namely the local characteristic-scale decomposition(LCD) is proposed in this paper based on the definition of the intrinsic scale component with physical instantaneous frequency.By using LCD method, any complicated signal can be decomposed adaptively into some intrinsic scale components(ISC) whose instantaneous frequencies own physical sense. In this paper, the theory of LCD is analyzed firstly;then the detail step of signal decomposition using LCD is given;finally the LCD method is compared with the empirical mode decomposition(EMD) method by analyzing a simulation signal. The analysis results show that the LCD method is effective and is superior to the EMD method in restraining end effect, the times of iteration and decomposition time.
