A method of compensating inter-reflections in color photometric stereo

In photometric stereo inter-reflections inside the object may blur the images in shade, resulting in blurred shapes. They may occur in the concave surface parts while they may not in the convex parts, and as the curvature of the concavity increases, the effects may be more serious. In this paper, we introduce an image filtering function in the process of shape reconstruction from color images, to compensate the effects of local inter-reflections in the Fourier transform domain using a model of the magnitude of the effects. The method is described mathematically and experimental results are given to show the usefulness.
