Online rotor flux linkage estimation for a variable flux interior permanent magnet syncronous machine operating at different flux density levels

This paper presents a method for online rotor flux linkage estimation for a variable flux interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (VF-IPMSM) drive system at different flux density levels. Since the stator winding resistance is temperature dependent, a thermocouple was used to obtain the actual stator winding temperature for accurate stator winding resistance measurement which was used for precise rotor flux linkage estimation. Offline dq-axis inductances versus current measurements test performed for variable magnetization states to account for dq-axis inductance variations into the rotor flux linkage estimator. The method was experimentally evaluated for different magnetization states and showed good performance in tracking the rotor flux linkage variations. The method was tested for field oriented control (id = 0) scheme.
