Salinity measurements with polyaniline matrix coated wire electrodes

Abstract Potentiometric measurements were carried out with a wire electrode coated with a mixture of polyaniline and polystyrene. The salinity in water is obtained by measuring the potential difference between the coated wire electrode and an Ag|AgCl, saturated KCl reference electrode. The salinity of a sample is obtained by the interpolation of its potential in the calibration curve obtained with KCl solutions of known concentrations. The results indicated that it is possible to measure the salinity in sea water, brackish water and drinking water in the range of 0.010 to 75‰.
