Direction of arrival estimation for monostatic MIMO radar using reduced-dimension RISR algorithm

In this paper, the issue of direction of arrival (DOA) estimation for monostatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is investigated, and a new reduced-dimensional re-iterative superresolution (RD-RISR) algorithm for DOA estimation is proposed based upon a recursive implementation of minimum mean-square error (MMSE) framework. In the proposed algorithm, a reduced-dimensional matrix is employed to transform the data matrix into a low dimensional space. Afterwards, the DOA is estimated via the RISR algorithm. The proposed algorithm has the benefits of intrinsic determination of model order, enable "tracking" of sources with low sample support, and robustness to coherent sources such as can occur in multipath environments. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
