CONTINUOUS IN-SITU CONTROL OF CONCRETE

A FAIRLY LARGE REINFORCED PRESTRESSED CONCRETE STRUCTURE WAS BUILT IN THE VICINITY OF A LABORATORY SPECIALIZING IN THE STUDY AND CONTROL OF CONCRETE. BECAUSE OF THIS PROXIMITY, AN INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED ON VARIATIONS IN THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CONCRETE LAID WITH CARE. BRIEF DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE MATERIALS USED AND CONCRETE MIX-DESIGN, AND A STUDY IS MADE OF THE VARIATIONS IN THE QUALITY OF FRESH AND HARDENED CONCRETE. CONTROL TESTS AND DATA ACQUISITION TESTS ARE EXAMINED FOR BOTH CAST-IN-SITU CONCRETE AND READY-MIXED CONCRETE. THE STATISTICAL RESULTS OF THIS STUDY LED TO THE PLOTTING OF CHARTS AND ESTABLISHMENT OF VARIOUS REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE. CONTROL MEASUREMENTS OF THE PRESTRESSING CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EXPERIMENTAL TUNNEL WERE ALSO USED IN THE STUDY.
