With the development of fuel cell vehicles, the climax of building hydrogen refueling stations is emerging all over the world. In China, several hydrogen refueling stations using high-pressure hydrogen will be built in Shanghai, Beijing etc. High-pressure hydrogen storage vessels are key equipment in hydrogen refueling stations. In this paper, integrating with the development highlights of layered vessels using flat ribbon wound cylindrical shells, the structural characteristics , failure mode and design concept of multifunctional layered high-pressure hydrogen storage vessels are introduced. And through the comprehensive compare with seamless hydrogen storage vessels, it is elaborated that multifunctional layered high-pressure hydrogen storage vessels are safe, economical and reliable in use.
