LINEAR LASER DIODE ARRAYS FOR IMPROVEMENT IN OPTICAL DISK RECORDING

This report describes work performed for the period of September 2, 1989 toJune 30, 1990 at the David Sarnoff Research Center in the OptoelectronicsResearch Laboratory, M. Ettenberg, Director, to complete Tasks 4, 6, and 7 underContract NASA 1-18226. Tasks 4 and 7 were specifically aimed at the developmentof 10-element linear diode arrays for optical recording. The goal of Task 6 was thedevelopment of high-power AIGaAs channeled-substrate-planar (CSP) lasers. The work described herein pertains to the design, fabrication, life and yieldassessment of CSP structures for use in optical recording and to our progress todate on the inverted CSP laser structure. D. B. Carlin was Project Manager andG.A. Alphonse was Project Scientist for the latter part of this work. Othercontributors to this research were J. C. Connolly, C. G. Dupuy, M. G. Harvey,T.R. Stewart, D.G. C. Taylor, S. N.J. P. Bednarz, M.A. Greyserman.A. Truxal, A. R. Dholakia, F. Z. Hawrylo, S. L. Palfrey,Subbarao, P. D. Gardner, D. T. Tarangioli, D. J. Holmes,Toda, J.B. Berkshire, S.R.
