Study on transgenic plant of osmotic stress resistance

Osmotic stress is one of the most serious abiotic stresses affect crops growth,development and yields. It is a main target of breeding scientist to improve the osmotic stress resistence of crops. But limited successes were acquired through traditional breeding due to the complexity of osmotic stress reaction. Recently scientists knew more about the molecular mechanism of osmotic stress resistance because of the developing of molecular biology and unceasingly finding of genes related to osmotic stress. All these provided the foundation of plant osmotic stress resistance genetic engineering. Some transgenic plants with higher osmotic stress resistance ability were acquired by transformation of genes related to osmotic stress into plants, which have unfolded an attractive prospect. This paper will highlight the progress in this study.
