Electrical power engineering education at UNSW

The power engineering curriculum in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) has undergone several major improvements since 2009. They include the revision of course content, the introduction of new courses, the appointment of new staff and enhanced integration of laboratory practice with taught courses. Curricula have been updated to include contemporary topics whilst maintaining fundamental power engineering principles. Significant support for this improvement came from our Faculty and the Australian Power Institute (API) including sponsorship for new staff appointments, new teaching laboratories that connect the teaching of theoretical principles to practice, and updating existing power engineering laboratories. This has resulted in the near doubling in the number of students undertaking electric power engineering as a major discipline in their third and fourth year of the engineering degree compared to numbers in 2009.
