Detecting load failures using the induction motor as a transducer

This work shows the feasibility of detecting load mechanical failures in drive train by using the induction motor as a transducer and applying MCSA (Motor Current Signature Analysis) technique to identify the characteristic fault frequency components. Furthermore, it presents the detection of problems in the transmission system and its relationship with the problems originated in the attached load. Data extract from industrial fans shows the effectiveness of the methodology.
