Preserving and Recovering Pulp Fibrils Subsequent to Drying

Summary Fibrils and microfibrils act as bonds between fibres leading to greater strength of paper and paperboard. When fibres dry, however, these fibrils and microfibrils dry down onto the surface of the fibre. These dried-down elements appear to be unavailable for fibre bonding during subsequent papermaking processes using recycled fibre or dried market pulp.
