We present a computer simulation for modelling predator-prey oscillations and demonstrating how natural history traits and resource availability may influence intra- and interspecific population densities We present a computer simulation (programmed in C) for modelling predator-prey oscillations and demonstrating the influence of natural history traits and resource availability on intra- and interspecific population densities. The computer simulation is designed as an educational tool for students to observe predator-prey oscillations and experimentally investigate how changes in life histories and abiotic factors affect predator and prey densities. This simulation also provides ‘hands-on’ interaction and visualization to help increase cognitive learning of theories and mathematical models, which describe predator-prey oscillation. We describe the operation and ‘rules’ of this computer simulation and compare its generated results to mathematical models found in most introductory biology texts. We offer th...
