A Survey of Users of Upper Limb Prostheses

This article presents the results of a survey of 48 adults with upper limb amputations registered with the Cambridge Disablement Services Centre. The survey revealed a high level of satisfaction with the service and with the prostheses supplied. Cosmesis was seen as an extremely important factor in prosthetic wear and it was concluded that this should be given a higher profile when prescribing prostheses for new patients. It was also concluded that patients should attend the clinic at intervals of no longer than 2 years to have their prostheses checked for fit, comfort and updating.
