SENSOR CONTROLLED REMOTE HANDLING IN FUSION REACTOR ENVIRONMENT

The remote maintenance inside a fusion reactor vessel presents particular difficulties due to the heavy loads, the tasks complexity, the awkward geometry and the severe environmental conditions. Sensor control to help manual teleoperation is only feasible if reliable components can be procured or developed for such an environment. This paper presents some latest results in the domain of position sensing suitable for fusion applications at high temperature and high radiation dose.
