Evaluating Temporal Change of the Land Intensive Use Level of Beijing

Land is vitally related to human existence and development. It has being evidently proved that sustainable utilization of land resources is the core problems of sustainable development. Taking Beijing city as a model case, we used the Delphi and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods to assess the land intensive use level from 1996 to 2005. By building respective index system of intensive land use, we calculated the intensive use scores of different factors and then the integrated index was deduced by AHP. The results showed that during 1996-2005, the intensive land use level is in improvement, though it is in low level as a whole. The level of land intensive use in Beijing is 0.4743 and the value increased to 0.5881 in 2000 and to 0.7783 in 2005. This also shows that Beijing has the potential ability of intensive land-use. It is concluded that the level of land use should be suit the requirements of economy, the intensive level of land use should be further improved.
