Optimal day ahead scheduling of distributed EVs in a smart distribution network

This paper presents an optimal day ahead schedule for a smart distribution network (SDN) using Electric vehicles (EVs) as one of the distributed energy resource (DER) in accordance with the variation in power market price. To avoid the adverse effect of massive EV integration on SDN, a coordinated charging/discharging strategy is worked out. Thus, the main objective is to minimize the hourly operational cost of the SDN by ensuring a cleaner, socially responsible and sustainable generation of electricity. The bilateral role of EVs as supplier and consumer of energy is evaluated in context of reducing the operational cost and suppressing the emissions. In this way, an objective is formulated and tackled using Particle swam optimization (PSO). A modified 33 bus distribution system with 2000 EVs are used to validate the proposed approach.
