Dynamic performance of HVDC system with fuzzy controlled SMES

Basic Bulk power systems require active and reactive power control for improved performance during transients. This paper investigates the dynamic performance of HVDC system with an energy storage device, which can control the active and reactive power independently. A super conducting magnetic energy storage device with a fuzzy logic controller is connected at the inverter ac bus to control the power. The dynamic performance of the HVDC system is carried out for various transient conditions and the results are presented. The simulation of HVDC system with SMES coil is carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC package. Fuzzy logic controller is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK and interfaced with PSCAD/EMTDC package.
