There are significant differences in educational backgrounds among surveyors throughout the United States and its territories. The majority of educational institutions offering degrees in some genre of surveying or geomatics are geared toward preparing graduates to become professional surveyors. However, state licensure eligibility varies greatly when it comes to education. Some states’ licensing boards require a bachelor’s degree, some require an associate’s degree, and others do not require a degree at all, but stipulate a minimum number of years of practical and supervised experience.
