Compensation of an optical fibre reflective sensor

Abstract This paper describes the evaluation of a fibre-optic reflective displacement sensor that is compensated for variations in light source intensity, reflectivity of target and opacity of transmitting medium. It is shown theoretically that the ratio of the outputs of a pair of suitably arranged sensors is independent of these factors and experimental results are presented that confirm this.
