Using UML to model the economic impact of invasive species: a case study of Pink Hibiscus Mealybug

This paper models an invasive species management problem through the use of Unified Modeling Language (UML). The business modelling approach is used to design a framework for the optimisation of societal objectives concerned with a particular invasive pest, the Pink Hibiscus Mealybug (PHM). The role of optimal allocation of resources in order to minimize the long run expected damages from PHM is considered in a Markov chain process framework. The events, states and the processes of this framework are linked to each other through a business model that optimises over the objective function under a given set of constraints and rules.
