Size effect on fracture energy of concrete

Abstract The fracture energy of concrete G F is a fracture mechanics parameter to describe the property of concrete to resist cracking. The value of G F may be influenced by various factors such as the specimen size, the mix proportion and so on. The present paper is to show some experimental results concerning the influence of the specimen size by means of compact tension tests. The strain softening diagram was also analysed and the possible mechanism of size effect on fracture energy of concrete is discussed.
