FORMWORK OVERCOMES KOREAN BRIDGE CHALLENGE

The new US$ 15 billion high-speed railway (HSR) in Taiwan will run from Taopei in the north to Kao-hsiung in the south. It is expected to be complete in October 2005. Contract C230 involves construction of a Warren truss bridge over a live railway line. The formwork contract was awarded to RMD Kwikform. The bridge, number DU77, is being built by the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company Ltd. RMD Kwikform Megashore towers are being used to support Warren trusses during erection and launching over existing live railway lines. A working platform is being provided beneath the Warren trusses, allowing installation of the Webtie system to support the in-situ concrete bridge deck. Details are given of the Megashore tower supports and the Webtie soffits formwork suspension system being used on the bridge construction.
