A concept of a magnetically-actuated optical image stabilizer for mobile applications

This paper presents a concept of optical image stabilization for miniature digital cameras using magnetic actuators. The proposed device has a 3 degrees-of-freedom flexible lens platform, which is actuated by four magnetic actuators. The device uses position feedback control to counter-rotate the lens to compensate for vibration disturbance introduced by the user's hand-shake. A dynamic model of the device is developed for the feedback controller design purpose. Controller design and simulations based on actual hand-shake data collected from the gyro sensors of a mobile device are presented. Experimental results of a single degree-of-freedom large-scale prototype demonstrate vibration compensation up to 45 Hz.
