Active Bandwidth sharing for multi-layered video in multi-source environments

Multicast distribution of multi-layered video is one of the most important challenges in current multimedia networks. Nevertheless, little attention has been devoted to the quality of the video at the receivers in multi-source environments. In this paper, we use the active networks paradigm for the management of many video sources that share common links crossed by different multicast trees. We present a new scheme that is based on the priority assigned by the different receivers to each required video flow. We investigate the efficiency of applying such adaptive system by using receiver’s profile to manage network resource.
