Reliability analysis of future special protection schemes

The penetration of information-age technologies can bring significant changes to the area of instrumentation, monitoring, control, and protection in power systems. The development of the special protection schemes (SPS) is also likely to be influenced greatly. This paper proposes a conceptual all-digital SPS architecture which is possible in the future. The application of general methodologies of reliability analysis to the new all-digital SPS is focused in this paper. The implementation of the network reduction method and the Markov modeling method to obtain the reliability indices of the proposed SPS architecture is illustrated in detail.
