The objective of the work described in this paper was to develop expert system concepts for use with power system stability studies, and provide proof of the concepts in a prototype computer program. This prototype has been completed and implemented on a DEC MicroVAX GPX Workstation. Although transient stability studies are conceptually complex, engineers can be guided to a solution through the use of a combination of presently available application software and expert system technology. Power system stability analysis consists of several activities, each with it's own technology. The main activities are:
