Complementarity between the finite capacity and finite source queuing systems

Abstract We show that a finite source queuing system is a complement to a multiple-server Erlang loss system insofar as the system size is concerned. We demonstrate that some key results on these two models derived in the literature using direct methods are a trivial consequence of this relationship. We also derive some new results. We relate the mean system size, mean system wait, server utilization and mean busy periods for these two systems.
